Women’s Voices from the Mother Lode

By Susan G. Butruille

Just reading the back cover of this book excites me: “…based on extensive research into the lives of the women…a vital part of the California Goldrush.” We shouldn’t be surprised that women were there as we serve a vital role in all facets of life. These were “ladies from the East Coast, Hispanic women from the South and West, a French woman ostracized for wearing pants…” The lives of these women were many and varied. Another review tells of a multicultural perspective on the Gold Rush Years. Everything about this book is of interest: it is mainly about women, it is multicultural, and it is about the gold rush. I am looking forward to the months rolling by so as to have time to turn these Placeholders into Book Reports. This one promises to be a winner.
